Suspicious car fire doused

Fire crews in Oliver doused a fire in an abandoned car early Wednesday morning, which they are treating as suspicious.

Oliver Fire Department spokesperson Rob Graham said they were called to the incident just before 7:30 a.m. The car had been left past the north end of River Road, north of Oliver.

Fire crews had to access it from the other side of the river, entering through the Deer Park Estates mobile home park off of Highway 97, near Gallagher Lake, and had to walk a fire hose across a gated water pipe bridge over the river.

Graham said the fire is suspicious based on the location of the vehicle, which was in an area that the department wasn't able to drive into.

He said the investigation has been turned over to the RCMP.
