Council hopeful withdraws

One of Penticton's 25 council candidates has withdrawn her nomination after she said she was in a car accident last week.

Tracy Franklin shared the news on Friday, saying on her Facebook page the decision was made "very reluctantly, and with a heavy heart."

"I was in a car accident last week, and the injuries are more extensive than I thought. I need time to focus on recovery," Franklin said online.

She also urged Penticton residents to vote in the municipal election on Oct. 20.

"There are many great candidates running. Make sure you research them all. Your vote can make positive changes. Do not be one of the 70 per cent of Pentictonites who don't vote on election day."

There are now 24 nominees for council in Penticton, down from 26 at the nomination deadline on Sept. 14.

Martyn Lewis, owner of Brexit pub and Coconut Express tours, also withdrew his candidacy earlier this week.
