Shots fired false alarm

Police in Penticton say a loud series of bangs Wednesday evening on the northwest end of the city were not gunshots.

Several Castanet readers have inquired about what sounded like gunshots ringing out around 9 p.m. in the Riverside Drive area.

Const. James Grandy says the commotion — which drew several RCMP cars to the area — “was actually a motorhome travelling down Riverside Dr., backfiring and spewing smoke.”

“Report of shots fired confirmed false,” he added.
