Lost his home twice

Chelsea Powrie

Kirby is one of many older cats at the Critteraid animal sanctuary in Summerland who just needs to find the right loving family.

He has been down this road before. His first owner died, and then he thought he found a new adoptive home, but he was returned.

"I think that a lot of his fear and anxiety comes from having a stable home and then being thrown outside, and not having the care and love he was used to," said animal director Jess Byer.

Kirby is skittish with loud noises, so Byer said he needs a quiet home with an experienced cat owner.

"He needs somebody who loves to pick him up and read his body language," she said.

Byer added that once Kirby feels comfortable with a person, there's no better friend in the world.

"He's the first to greet you in the morning, and he's not about the food, he's about the love," she said.
