Banks Crescent rises again

A contentious senior living development proposal in Summerland, which saw months of heated public debate and arguments in council, was shot down by the district in February. However, the developer isn't ready to give up.

The Banks Crescent development is not dead yet, as the Lark Group is working on a new, revised plan for the development. They are currently engaging in well-drilling and testing on Bristow Road, overseen by Rock Glen Consulting.

"Lark Group has taken the feedback from the community and has decided to revise the project and is working towards resolving their main environmental concerns," said PR consultant for the project Yvonne Chiang in an email.

Kirk Fisher, senior vice president of the Lark Group, said they are excited to be looking at another option for the development of the project.

"We are revising the scope and scaling the project back in line with the recommendations that we received from council and the neighbourhood. We believe this new project will accomplish many of the goals that we wanted  from the start, that is to provide much needed affordable housing for seniors, and yet it is the size that the city requested," Fisher said.

"We believe the new revised project will meet the needs of Summerland and satisfy the environmental concerns raised by the community.”

Five councillors voted against allowing the Banks Crescent development in February, citing concerns over the impact to the nearby Summerland Trout Hatchery and the relative distance from downtown Summerland.
