Be fire-aware while camping

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is warning campers to be vigilant when it comes to fire safety.

In a press release Wednesday afternoon, the district reminded the public that a campfire ban is currently in place throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre, an area which encompasses RDOS land.

The Placer Mountain wildfire has also restricted access to Cathedral Provincial Park.

Discarded cigarette butts, campfires, hot exhausts pipes, power tools, Tiki torches and even discarded glass can all function as potential starters for wildfires.

Campers are also asked to be aware that fire conditions can change at a moment's notice, and to be ready to go in the event a fire is sparked and an evacuation is necessary.
