RDOS chair seeks third term

Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen board chair Karla Kozakevich has announced she plans to seek a third term as the area director for Naramata.

Kozakevich was first elected to the board in 2011 and has served as the RDOS chair for two years.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed the past seven years working with the citizens of Area E as well as with the staff of the RDOS and have decided to let my name stand for another term," she said in a written letter.

"As both director and volunteer, I have attended approximately 100 Parks & Recreation Commission meetings, 90 Naramata Water Advisory Committee meetings, 50 advisory planning commission meetings and am proud that I have not missed an RDOS board meeting since being elected."

Some accomplishments Kozakevich mentioned were helping lobby for the Penticton Regional Hospital expansion, planning a satellite firehall for the Indian Rock, Glenfir and North Naramata road areas, upgrading aging pipes, parks and playgrounds in Naramata, and working to revitalize several significant properties in the village centre.

Of the eight rural directors, Kozakevich and rural Osoyoos director Mark Pendergraft have both publicly stated their plans to seek re-election.

"I believe I can effectively represent the residents of Area A at the RDOS board table, and have the experience to know what is important for those residents," Pendergraft said in an email to Castanet last month. He has been the director of rural Osoyoos since 2005 and was the RDOS chair from 2012 to 2016.

Area C director Terry Schafer and Area D director Tom Siddon both have announced plans to step down from municipal politics.

Rural Keremeos/ Hedley director Elef Christensen passed away in late June.
