Police pop by 377 Winnipeg

The RCMP swung by a notorious problem property in Penticton Tuesday afternoon.

Police visited 377 Winnipeg Street while on foot patrol in the downtown area, shortly after 12 p.m.

Mounties entered the home and sat down, where the tenants gave them prescription medication to dispose of, since whoever it belonged to didn’t need it anymore, according to Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth.

He added there was a large cannabis plant in the living room, which officers made the residents cut down. A stolen bike was also recovered in the backyard.

Wrigglesworth said there was nothing that would warrant charges, but “the extra police presence, I think, is appreciated by the community.”

The City of Penticton confirmed Tuesday the home's utilities remain disconnected, as they have been since March. The city has also been billing the landlord, Malvinder Singh Randhawa, for any emergency calls to the home since the start of the year. Those bills are reportedly piling up.

The home has attracted plenty of negative attention over the past 18 months, with a neighbour coming before council on two occasions to demand action from the city and RCMP.
