Grand opening for exhibits

The Penticton Museum has not one but two new exhibits opening on Thursday, and they're having a public party to celebrate the grand opening.

From 3 to 6 p.m., the museum's doors will be open for an all-ages event. It's the public's first chance to check out the newest displays.

The first exhibit is called the Hands-on Heritage Lab. Curator Dennis Oomen said it's a great option for families because it's an interactive look at technology and natural history.

"You can build a bridge, for instance, construct and earthquake-proof building, find out how airplanes work and what makes them fly," Oomen said.

The Hands-on Heritage Lab will be a permanent fixture at the museum, whereas the second new exhibit is on tour from Kelowna.

"It's called The Social Life of Water, and it talks about the water resources of the Okanagan," Oomen said. "It talks about different perspectives on how the water is used and looked at and so forth. There's quite a lot of First Peoples' perspectives on what sort of role water plays in our lives."

Refreshments will be available at the event.
