The future site of the Summerland skatepark
Construction on a new skateboard park in Summerland is expected to begin near the end of August.
District council award the contract to build the project to New Line Skateparks Inc. Monday evening with little discussion. New Line was the only company to submit a bid for the project.
The skatepark will be built at the corner of Jubilee Road West and Rosedale Avenue at a cost of about $600,000. Federal gas tax funds will cover $458,000, while private donations have funded the rest.
Recreation manager Lori Mullen said Monday construction should begin at the end of August, with an expected completion date of November 30.
