Donation for breakfast clubs

Fourteen local nonprofits and school breakfast programs were granted a combined $8,680 today by the Penticton Speedway Foundation.

Funds raised at the track every year through 50/50 and other donations have been directed to local groups through the foundation for almost a decade, although the track has been giving to charity for closer to 20 years.

“This is something we really endorse. I’m 100 per cent behind this program, the Speedway Foundation, all the members,” track owner Johnny Aantjes said.

In addition to groups like the South Okanagan Women in Need Society, Critteraid and Alleycats Alliance, the foundation supports breakfast programs at 11 local schools.

Hundreds of hungry children are fed every week, but there is a need for volunteers. Some schools only offer the program three days a week because of a lack of volunteers. Those interested in helping out can contact [email protected].
