Major new restaurant plans

Construction is ongoing for a new Turkish-influenced restaurant in front of Okanagan Lake in Penticton.

The property on Lakeshore Drive has been owned by a couple from Turkey for more than 40 years. The pair also own the Black Sea Motel on the property next door.

The new two-storey, 120-seat restaurant is expected to have a soft opening in October, according to Black Sea Motel manager Ayse Barluk.

Barluk said for a long time, the property owners rented the building space where tenants had operated other restaurants, but now the owners are setting up shop themselves.

She said the restaurant will be its own separate entity from the Black Sea Motel.

"It's going to have a Turkish-menu influence to it. It's not geared to be an ethnic restaurant, it's kind of Canadian cuisine but with Turkish elements to it... The spices, certain dishes, preparation of the food as well."

Plans for the new restaurant began in late 2016 when the old building on the site was demolished, Barluk added.
