Two hurt in road washout

UPDATE: 4:50 p.m.

The Penticton RCMP says two female occupants of a vehicle that plunged into a washout on the Princeton-Summerland Road were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The vehicle is being left in the chasm cutting through the roadway until engineers can ascertain the safety of the road, which could be closed for several days.

The washout occurred overnight Sunday near Mountain View Road, just west of Faulder.

UPDATE: 3 p.m.

The Ministry of Transportation has confirmed a vehicle carrying two people drove into a washout on the Princeton-Summerland Road early this morning before the incident was reported and the area secured.

The condition of the two vehicle occupants is unknown, but it’s believed they were taken to hospital. Castanet News has requested more information from the RCMP about the washout, which occurred near Mountain View Road, just west of Faulder.

The Ministry says it is starting repairs on the Princeton-Summerland Road, but an estimated opening time is unavailable.

The Princeton-Summerland Road will remain closed until further notice due to a major washout near Mountain View Road, just west of Faulder.

Photos from the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen show a section of about 20 feet of road completely washed out.

The Summerland Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident in relation to the slide, but does not comment on the specifics of MVIs.

More mudslides causing trouble across interior highways this morning.

The Princeton to Summerland Highway is closed in both directions 1km west of Mountain View Road because of a washout.

Crews are on scene right now conducting an assessment, no estimated time of opening.
