Post-eviction parking lot pad

Residents are concerned about a man camping in a parking lot with all his belongings after he was evicted from his Penticton apartment on Thursday.

The man, reportedly around 60 years old, is camped just off of Wade Avenue behind his former building on Winnipeg Street.

The apartment is owned by BC Housing and managed by Penticton and District Community Living Society.

PDSCL executive director Tony Laing couldn't comment on specifics of the eviction due to privacy concerns. He pointed out evictions are covered under the Residential Tenancy Act, and said the process is lengthy and involves sufficient notice.

The parking lot pad has garnered plenty of notice online by community members.

"All storage units are full and he needs to store his stuff in order to move to a motel for the time being," one resident posted on Penticton's community Facebook group, adding they have made sure he's fed since Thursday.

"He's not a drunk or junkie. Just confused and needs help. He's disabled. Come on Penticton step up and help."
