Mudslide on golf course

A section of Fairview Mountain Golf Course near Oliver was hit by flooding and a mudslide late on Thursday as a result of a heavy rainstorm in the area.

The course is closed currently, and head pro Charlie Martin said staff should know later on Friday how long the closure should last.

"(The damage) has been limited in terms of impact on the course. It more is across and through sections where it doesn't really impact the course of play," Martin said.

He added that after the significance of Thursday's rainfall event, the course probably wouldn't have been open the following day regardless.

The golf course had opened for the season on Thursday.

"We're obviously surprised and disappointed... But with the exception of what's happened today, we're very optimistic about this year."

Record rainfall hit the South Okanagan late on Thursday, with some areas seeing more than a month's worth of rain in a 24-hour span.
