Saving species on display

Youtube: National Geographic

An exhibit travelling around the world to advocate for animal protection will stop in the South Okanagan this summer.

The National Geographic Photo Ark, featuring thousands of creatures in captivity, will be on display at Liquidity Wines in OK Falls beginning on Jun. 23 — the first time the display will be featured in Canada.

The display hopes to eventually document every species in the world's zoos and other sanctuaries, which the National Geographic society believes can inspire people to protect species for future generations.

Photographer Joel Sartore, who founded Photo Ark, said “the goal of the Photo Ark is simple — show what's at stake, and get people to care, while there is still time.”

Liquidity Wines owner Ian MacDonald said the winery is proud to have been chosen as a canvas for the display.

“National Geographic is such an iconic global brand, and we are thrilled to be working with them on this inspirational show," MacDonald said.

More than 50 photographs will fill the walls of Liquidity's tasting room from Jun. 23 until Sept. 8.
