Sicamous pier taking shape

The S.S. Sicamous wharf project is beginning to take shape on the Okanagan Lake waterfront.

Volunteers are constructing a new entrance for the historic stern-wheeler to encourage more visitors into the ship and create a more historically accurate exterior. More than 11,000 visitors come through the ship annually.

The project is being supported by a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan and $37,500 loan and $12,500 grant from the city.

It’s estimated the wharf — constructed out of Canadian Douglas Fir — will take more than 200 volunteer hours to complete. It’s hoped it will be finished by the summer.
