Plan your healthy fair visit

The lineup of speakers at the upcoming Okanagan Similkameen Healthy Living Fair in Penticton has been announced. 

On Saturday March 10, the free event will open its doors at 9 a.m. for an opening ceremony, and then have a variety of scheduled speakers throughout the day in addition to informational and product booths throughout the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

The speaker lineup is as follows.

9:15 a.m.: "Somewhere Over the Rainbow Sticker," with acclaimed Canadian LGBTQ activist and author Ivan Coyote.The talk will discuss gender identity, social justice and queer liberation through personal stories

10 a.m.: "Beyond the Scale," with Melanie Beatty, RD and Alisa Senecal, RD, who will speak about the Health at Every Size approach to wellbeing.

10:30 a.m.: "Trauma Informed Practice + You," with SOWINS worker and Penticton Yoga Therapy owner Carrie Few. She will discuss Trauma Informed Practice and how to implement it in all areas of life.

11:30 a.m.: "Mental Fitness for Women," with Liesel Reimer, who will challenge her audience to identify strategies to improve their optimal mental health.

1:30 p.m.: "The Effects of Poverty on Women and their Health," with Katrina McKeown and Tracy Franklin, who will run a poverty-simulation game with their audience to highlight the reality of living in poverty. 

2:30 p.m.: "50+ You Matter: Planning your Journey to Women's Wellness," with Bonnie Kooistra, MSW, who willl teach learning tools inspired by the Wellness Wheel guide of the First Nations Health Authority to teach women to empower themselves in their own lives. 

All the speakers and workshops are free, and the whole event wraps up at 4 p.m.
