Tuition bump at OK College

Students at Okanagan College will be dealing with another tuition increase in the coming year.

The college’s board of governors has approved a two per cent increase for domestic students, the maximum allowed under provincial policy. International students will see their rates jacked up as much as 5.9 per cent in some programs.

“The increase in tuition is one of the mechanisms we have to keep pace with the impact of tuition on our budget and support much-needed additional services,” said Okanagan college board chair Chris Derickson.

The average Canadian student taking a full semester (five lectures) will see their tuition increase $33.42 per semester to $1,704. An international student will pay $6,872 a semester for the same courses.

In a news release, the college maintained its rates remain in the “mid-range” of those charged by other colleges in the province.

The institutions budget will be finalized later this month.

“We have had requests for additional services articulated by the Okanagan College Students’ Association and I know that administration is looking closely at how the College can address those,” says Derickson.
