Schulting lands NCAA future

Coquitlam Express defenseman and Osoyoos native Jordan Schulting secured an NCAA Division I hockey scholarship earlier this month.

Schulting has committed to play for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell Riverhawks, beginning in the 2019-20 season.

The Riverhawks play in the 12-team Hockey East division. They have qualified for the NCAA national championship tournament in five of the past six seasons, and appeared in the renowned 'Frozen Four' in 2013.

Schulting, a second-year BCHL player, had seven goals and 17 assists in 47 games this season. He was also named the Express' most improved player during team's awards banquet on Monday.

The 18-year-old is an alumni of the Okanagan Hockey Academy in Penticton. He grew up in Osoyoos and graduated from Osoyoos Secondary School last spring.

Schulting and the Express are preparing to play the Penticton Vees in round one of the BCHL playoffs, beginning on Friday night at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
