Landfill summer hours begin

Several main landfills in the South Okanagan will be open for extended summer hours beginning on Thursday.

The Campbell Mountain landfill in Penticton will now be open on Sundays until the end of November. The site will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. daily.

The Keremeos transfer station at the Keremeos landfill will be opening on Wednesdays from noon to 4 p.m. The station is also open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The landfill in Oliver will be open from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday to Friday, after being open from noon to 3:45 p.m. in the winter months. The landfill is open from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Saturdays as well.

Finally, the Okanagan Falls landfill opens on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. beginning in April. It’s also open 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

To help reduce garbage waste, the RDOS is also advising residents they are able to pre-purchase compost bins before Mar. 21. Regional collection of compost waste will begin on Apr. 22.
