Bobcats caught dancing

A pair of bobcats were caught on camera Sunday evening near Okanagan Falls in the middle of what appears to be a courtship dance.

Heritage Hills resident Ken Oszinski says he spotted the pair from his back deck on Friday and Sunday nights.

“They were very aware that we were here, I wasn’t that far away from them. One was almost like stalking the other, they were playing the mating game it almost looked like.”

Oszinski says bobcats frequent the area at certain times of the year, often hunting marmots.

One of the bobcats was radio collared, possibly by the Southern Interior Land Trust and Trent University, who have been conducting research on bobcats and lynxes in the area recently.

The radio collars track the movement of the animals with GPS to provide data for conservation before automatically dropping off the cats every fall.
