Local in range of a medal

Local Summerland bobsledder Justin Kripps is within sight of an Olympic medal.

Kripps and his two-man bobsleigh partner Alexander Kopacz of Ontario are one-tenth of a second out of the gold medal spot, behind the German team, following heats early Sunday morning Pacific time.

The final two heats take place Monday, in which the Canadian team will hope to hold on to their spot and possibly advance ahead of the German duo.

Kripps, 31, has previously competed in two-man bobsleigh in the Sochi Olympic Games in 2014 and four-man in Vancouver in 2010, and has won a silver medal in the 2017 World Bobsleigh Championships.

Though Kripps was born in Hawaii, he calls Summerland his hometown.

The final men's bobsleigh two-man heats will be broadcast on TSN starting at 6 a.m. Pacific time Monday.
