Buy a ticket, feed a kid

A raffle at this year's Valentines Day Vees' game will benefit local Penticton school breakfast programs, plus give fans the chance to win big prizes.

Spectators at the Feb. 14 game against the Coquitlam Express at the SOEC will have the opportunity to purchase a $2 raffle ticket in the first annual Winning Wicked Wednesday draw, with all proceeds going toward meals for hungry local schoolchildren.

The grand prize is a trip for two to Mexico, including flights and accommodation, donated by Neil Jamieson from Underwriters Insurance, valued at $2,400.

Jamieson along with Jim Cressman of Invictus Entertainment also donated the second prize, which is six tickets to the upcoming Slayer concert in his luxury suite at the SOEC, valued at $1,000.

Third prize is a one-day Hornet car rental for a race day at the Penticton Speedway, valued at $600.

Only 5,000 tickets will be printed, giving great odds to anyone who participates.

Susan Thomson, director of instruction of student services with Penticton's School District 67, said the district appreciates the support for local children and families.

"I am always amazed at the capacity of our breakfast clubs. The volunteers are so dedicated and the students are thriving on their healthy breakfasts," Thomson said.
