Local teen to open for Kissel

A 15-year-old country artist from Penticton will open for country star Brett Kissel when he performs at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre next month.

Beamer Wigley earned the role by winning a contest through social media, where artists could post a cover version of one of Kissel's songs.

Kissel is currently on a nation-wide tour which includes more than 50 stops.

He held the contest to pick an opening act, called the 'Kick it With Kissel Tour,'  for nine of his shows including Penticton, which were chosen in December.

"Really awesome news that I will be opening for Brett Kissel here in Penticton during his #KickitWithKissel Tour in March! Also big congrats to all the other contest winners," Wigley said on his Facebook page.

Wigley came out with his first studio album in 2016, titled Meteorite. According to his website, "he continues to write and co-write new music with highly accomplished writers in both Canada and Nashville."

Kissel, the reigning 'Male Artist of the Year' as chosen by the Canadian Country Music Association, will be performing in Penticton on Mar. 16.
