Sex assault charges laid

The Penticton RCMP is announcing charges against a man following a report of sexual assault and forcible confinement of a local woman.

On Sunday, police were contacted by a 22-year-old female who said she was forcibly confined the prior evening at a home and assaulted, sexually assaulted and threatened.

“Efforts to locate the male involved neighbouring detachments with RCMP officers locating the suspect a short time later in Osoyoos, BC,” Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said in a news release. “The man was arrested without incident.”

Police say the victim and accused knew each other, and this was not a random incident.

Aaron Motz, 23 of Summerland, is facing charges of forcible confinement, sexual assault, assault and uttering threats in relation to the incident.

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing on Feb. 7.
