The entertainment lineup for the 71st Penticton Peach Festival has been officially announced.

Festival president Don Kendall revealed the rumoured main headliners, which had been circulating online, were true.

Rocker Kim Mitchell will kick off the festival on Wednesday, Aug. 8.

The following evening, classic rock legends April Wine hit the stage.

Friday will see three tribute acts to Tom Petty, The Eagles and AC/DC, followed by an all-country lineup on Saturday featuring Canadian country star George Canyon as the headliner.

To wrap up the festival, up-and-coming B.C. country singer Madeline Merlo will take to the stage.

Other popular events returning this year include the Canadian Forces Skyhawks precision parachute team for two aerial displays on opening day, and the Mega Motorcross will run twice a day on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Kendall noted that the Motorcross was so popular last year that they will be adding more bleacher seats to try and accommodate as many spectators as possible.
