Dealership delays opening

A Nissan dealership on Penticton Indian Band locatee lands now says March 1, 2018 is its opening date, instead of the previously stated Dec. 15, 2017.

Owner/operator John Kot said winter weather has delayed the opening.

"We are geared up to open on March 1," Kot said. "We've got all our vendors and everything like that in order."

The $7 million dealership will employ around 30 people and will be the first tenant at the PIB's Satikw Crossing development.

The business was mentioned in a now-settled lawsuit filed in September by the PIB against its former Chief and councillors.

The lawsuit alleged the six former leaders were blocking band business by refusing to sign over shares of the PIB Development Corporation.

As a result, the lawsuit said PIB-run Westhills Aggregates could not install a water connection at the Nissan dealership due to a lack of a signing authority, putting the company at risk of breach of contract.

The named defendants signed over the shares a few weeks after the lawsuit was filed.
