Not all oppose Banks Cres

Chelsea Powrie

Summerland is full of opinions about a controversial new development that will get a formal public hearing in the coming weeks.

Castanet hit the streets of Summerland to see how residents feel about the Banks Crescent proposal.

Some say the development, a senior's living complex, is just too far from downtown to be useful to those in it, who need the amenities offered in the core.

"Why put all of those people so far away?" one man asked.

Others are concerned about the risk to a nearby aquifer during construction, which could be devastating to a local trout fishery.

Still, some say some change is good.

"We need rooms for the old people," one man said. "They have nowhere to go."
