SPCA Granted $13,000

Getting closer.

The Penticton SPCA is getting some generous support from City Council.

On Monday Council voted to give the SPCA a grant in the amount of $13,570, which is the same amount the Society spent on development fees for the new building.

Councilor Joanne Grimaldi says she hopes everyone will get behind the SPCA as they try to raise the rest of the money needed for the new shelter. The Shelter is about $200,000 short of its $1.55 million goal.

City Administrator Leo Den Boer says this a great opportunity for residents.

“This is a double-our-money opportunity. Because of the potential to have our funds matched we as a community could raise a significant amount of money for this very wonderful cause,” says Den Boer.

An anonymous resident from Vancouver has promised to donate up to $100,000 to the shelter if the same amount can be raised locally. The South Okanagan Animal Shelter will benefit communities from Summerland to Oliver and is expected to be completed in December.
