Anonymous Donation

The nine lives of some cats are going to improve.

Jackie Frederick, the fund raising coordinator for the BC SPCA says the new shelter being built in Penticton has the chance to benefit from some random generosity.

According to Frederick, an anonymous resident from Vancouver has pledged $300,000 to help stray cats in British Columbia. All that is known about the person's identity is that it is a woman from the lower mainland. And she loves cats.

“She really doesn't care where in the province it ends up as long as it benefits cats,” says Frederick.

The woman has agreed to donate $100,000 to the South Okanagan Animal Centre in Penticton, if that same amount can be raised locally.

“Our community has the ability to do this. We are short of our original goal, but we are hoping to have it by opening in December,” says Frederick.

Frederick says she would love to know who the woman is, if only to thank her on behalf of the cats she will be helping.
