Illegal Signs In Osoyoos

Signs, signs, everywhere a sign.

Osoyoos Mayor John Slater is concerned about the number of illegal highway signs that keep popping up near the entrance to his community.

He gained the support of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) board on Thursday when he asked the Ministry of Transportation to enforce highway signage regulations.

Slater wrote a letter to the RDOS stating that although he appreciates the appropriate use of signs, the increase of illegal signs has resulted in an unattractive entry into Osoyoos.

Farmers and property owners are allowed to advertise on their property. Similar complaints have been coming in about signs on Naramata Road.

A lack of sufficient highway staff makes it difficult to enforce the sign regulations.
