Green Ave Work Starts

It will be open again soon.

Work has begun on Green Avenue in Penticton which has been closed to traffic for over a month.

It was closed on July 13 after a city geo-technical engineer noted a potential instability caused in part by a heavy rain storm. It was the engineer's opinion that the slope posed an imminent danger to the public use. Another cause of the instability was earth work done by the owner of 180 Green Avenue East.

The city ordered the land owner to begin remedial actions to correct the slope deficiencies, which was not done to the city's satisfaction. In accordance with the Community Charter, the city has begun work to fix the slope and will be sending the bill to the land owner. It is expected the work will be finished and the road re-opened by August 25.

Nearly 40 people from Gabion Court on Green Avenue are still unable to return home after flood waters and mud from the slope forced them to be evacuated over a month ago.
