Tis' the season of giving

The Penticton mayor and local non-profits celebrated Giving Tuesday at city hall today.

Penticton celebrated its third annual edition of the event, which is a global movement for giving and volunteering.

“Today we had a proclamation from the mayor of Penticton to kickoff Giving Tuesday,” said Reanne Amadio, manager of community investment, United Way. “GivingTuesday is in its fifth year and it’s a celebration and a kickoff for the giving season to the people in the community.”

The yearly event always takes place the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

“It's a chance for people to get involved with their local community organizations,” Amadio said. “They can donate time, money or they can get in touch with their local organizations and give back to their community.

Many local non-profits joined together to encourage small acts of kindness throughout the community.

“We are a not-for-profit dental clinic, that helps people who cannot access dental treatment in the mainstream,” said Greta Henning, Henning Emergency Kindness Clinic or H.E.C.K. “They are having pain or infection that they are having trouble treating.”

Across Canada, Giving Tuesday unites communities by sharing the ability to care for and empower one another.
