A local woman is looking for small donations to provide Penticton's homeless residents with Christmas gift bags.
Kristine Lee Shepherd and her two daughters host Monday night dinners at Nanaimo Square weekly and with Christmas coming up, they want to provide the homeless with a little extra.
"I’m making Christmas bags for our dinner guests, there is usually about 25 people there,” Shepherd said. “It’s important because they need a Christmas too."
“They get to have a gathering of all their friends, Christmas dinner and then they will have a little bag of goodies to open.”
Shepherd is looking for a variety of small items:
- Christmas bags
- Bus passes
- Gloves
- Socks
- Journals, pens and pencils
- Treats
- Playing cards
- Chapstick
- Mitten warmers
- Barber or salon gift certificates
- Coffee shop gift certificates
She will be auctioning off a gift basket over Facebook, with 50 per cent of the proceeds going towards Monday night dinners at Nanaimo Square.
Shepherd hopes local businesses can donate a small item to add to the gift basket.
Community members can contact [email protected] with any donations for the homeless Christmas bags and she will be accepting items until 3 p.m. on Dec. 18.
The bags will be handed out at the Monday night dinner on Dec. 18.
There will also be a Winemaker's Spelling Bee fundraiser held at Mile Zero Wine Bar on Dec. 2, with 50 per cent of the proceeds going towards Monday night dinner at Nanaimo Square.
