Pay parking by smartphone

Residents and visitors of Penticton can now pay for parking by smartphone at two locations.

The Passport Canada app now accepts payment for parking at the meters on the 100 block of Martin St. and the 421 Ellis St. parking lot.

The app can be downloaded for both Apple and Android devices and allows motorists to pay for parking, extend time remotely and receive receipts and payment history electronically.

Funds can also be preloaded with a credit or debit card. All users who preload $20 will receive a $5 bonus in their digital wallet.

“Passport Parking app allows you the convenience of parking without having to carry change for the parking meters. You’ll be notified in advance when your time is running low on funds and you can refill it remotely – no more running to your car! This technology will be extremely convenient for our downtown businesses and their customers,” says Lynn Allin, Executive Director of the Downtown Penticton Association.

The city will be monitoring the use of the app and its effectiveness over the next few weeks before considering options to implement it more widely.
