Crews in Summerland were busy cleaning up the mess from the windstorm well into Wednesday.

Fire crews responded to 10 calls of downed power lines on Tuesday, and those reports kept coming the next day.

Winds in the South Okanagan were clocked at 94 kilometres per hour at peak gusts on Tuesday, and topped out at 75 km/h on Wednesday.

Summerland's Chief Administrative Officer, Linda Tynan, said the district contacted the Provincial Emergency Response Centre on Tuesday.

She added that the extreme winds were "highly unusual."

"(Tuesday's) winds were extremely high, this was unusual. This was definitely an event."

Penticton was battered as well by the heavy winds.

Seven trees were uprooted in Skaha Park, which forced the park to close for part of the day on Tuesday.

Fire crews reported to numerous calls of downed trees and power lines on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Environment Canada’s forecast indicates the worst of the wind storm has passed, but wind gusts of up to 50 km/h are expected into Thursday night.
