Major triathlon coming

Super League

Penticton will see a new major triathlon event in the city next summer.

MB Events, the group that hosted Challenge Penticton and the ITU Multisport Championship, announced on Friday that the Super League Triathlon's official 'Golden Qualifier' will take place in the Peach City from Aug. 17-19, 2018.

The three-day event will see age-group and professional categories.

The top four male and female pro racers will qualify for the Super League Triathlon championship series in the Americas next year.

"We're extremely excited to continue the amazing triathlon history in Penticton by bringing this event to BC next summer," Michael Brown said, executive director of MB Events.

The events during the Super League Triathlon are broadcasted to highlight athletes. The race is a shorter, faster format than traditional long-course triathlon races.

"The premier brand Super League, and its exciting new triathlon format, will bring a fresh perspective for athletes and spectators alike," Brown continued.

He added that age-group athletes will race in the mornings on the same course that the pro athletes will race on in the afternoons.

"We are excited about the opportunity to bring Super League triathlon to Canada and we can't think of a location more deserving than Penticton," Chris McCormack said, who is a co-founder of the Super League Triathlon, and a two-time Ironman world champion and ITU world champion.

Age-group registration will open on Nov. 1st.

All information for the Golden Qualifier will be available on the event website by Oct. 24th.
