A local calling area could be in the works for residents and businesses within the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS).
Area directors are trying to establish a local calling area with Telus to benefit local businesses.
A local calling area means that it would no longer be considered long distance to call a business in Penticton from Oliver, for example.
Telus is performing a feasibility study, as mandated by the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission, which is expected to be completed by the end of August. After that, residents will have to endorse the expansion.
If approved, the expansion could mean higher basic line rates.
