Drive thru breakfast a hit

The Penticton Lakeside Resort entrance transformed into a drive thru breakfast Tuesday morning, in support of the United Way.

On Sept. 12, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., the 6th Annual United Way CSO Drive Thru Breakfast took place, with the proceeds helping over 26,500 people in need in the South Okanagan. The event was a success, despite not raising quite as much as last year.

"It went really well, it was a little slower than last year's but we raised $15,500 thanks to some very generous donations from some of our gold sponsors," said Marianne Dahl, marketing and events manager.

"Cascades Casino gave us $2,000 and we also raised $1,000 from Penticton Speedway," she said. "IGA gave us $1,000 cash, plus over $3,000 in kind donations, food to go in the bags, as well as the grocery bags for the event, so that's amazing."

The bags consisted of a variety of food items, coupons and prizes. The United Way Central & South Okanagan/Similkameen hoped to raise $20,000.

"I also want to thank our host Penticton Lakeside Resort, their donation is priceless they give us so much in terms of time, sandwiches and people," Dahl said. "We really have to thank them a lot for their service to the community."
