GWFP Lockout: Day Nine

The employees at Greenwood Forest Products (GWFP) are on day nine of the labour lockout.

Union President Ben Landis says they met with GWFP on Friday to discuss the situation.

“We had two key issues to deal with. One was the continuation of medical benefits for employees during the labour dispute and the second one was to tell the company we had met with a majority of the picketers and we were in a position to provide them with some cost relief if that would resolve the dispute,” says Landis.

He says that they met with GWFP again on Monday to clarify their offer and will be meeting with them on Wednesday to find out what they think of it.

Landis says the offer being considered is a wage cut of $1 an hour and payments of $1 an hour into the GWFP Pension Plan, an offer which could save the company between $200,000 and $300,000 yearly.

GWFP Vice-President Wade Walker had no comment to make when contacted.

“I don't see any value in making a comment during the discussions,” says Walker.
