Satikw Crossing blooming

Although construction has been underway since the end of April, a ground-breaking ceremony was held Friday morning at the future site on Penticton Nissan, on locatee lands of the Penticton Indian Band.

Owner/operator John Kot says the $7 million dealership should be open on Dec. 15, employing about 30 people.

“We looked around at a lot of land, and this was the best venue,” he said, adding they expect to be able to go “head-to-head” with Penticton Toyota and Honda right out the gate.

He already owns Hyundai dealerships in Kelowna and Maple Ridge.

Kot’s dealership will be the first business to open at the Penticton Indian Band's Satikw Crossing development.

“We are really proud to have Nissan come here on these beautiful lands,” PIB councillor Jonathan Kruger said. “It's going to generate jobs, not only for our band members but for the city of Penticton. Businesses are going to flourish here in the future.”

He said they hope the Nissan dealership acts as a catalyst, attracting other businesses to the development, adding that talks are underway between the locatee owners and other interested business owners

“Things are looking good,” he said with a grin.
