Cyclist struck by car

UPDATE FRIDAY 2:15 p.m.

RCMP have clarified that the cyclist was not taking part in the multisport championships, but was in Penticton training for a European ride. 


ORIGINAL THURS 10:30 a.m.

An ITU Multisport World Championship competitor was struck by a vehicle while cycling in Penticton Thursday morning. 

The multisport competition does not get underway until tomorrow, but many athletes have already arrived. The cyclist was hit on South Main St. in front of South Main Market at about 9:40 a.m. 

The person suffered minor bumps and bruises and has been brought to Penticton Regional Hospital, according to Penticton RCMP. 

The local police are asking the public to be extra cautious while driving in Penticton during the ITU Multisport World Championship from Aug. 18 to 27, because there will be many cyclists and runners on the roads.
