New judge in town

There is a new judge in town.

The Provincial Court of British Columbia announced Wednesday that Judge Michelle Daneliuk has been assigned to Penticton. She will be sworn in on Sept. 6.

Daneliuk has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta and worked as a criminal defence lawyer in Edmonton for 10 years before relocating to Victoria in 2005. Since then, she has run a practice in criminal law, focusing on large cases involving multiple defendants.

“British Columbia’s judicial system is recognized as one of the best in the world because of the diversity, experience and knowledge of its judges,” reads a government news release “The chief judge determines the locations to which judges are assigned in order to meet the needs of the court.”

Daneliuk takes the place of Judge Gale Sinclair, who is retiring.
