Reopening the dog house

Critteraid in Summerland is reopening its “Dog House” division in a bid to help as many animals in the Okanagan Valley as possible.

The charity has been operating a cat sanctuary Summerland, caring for up to 60 felines at a time. They have sheltered dogs in the past, but were forced to put the program on hiatus due to lack of resources.

“But we just reopened our dog house division, it’s a work-in-progress, as is everything,” animal director Jess Byer said. “But we are very excited.”

The first dog up for adoption is a five-year-old named Harvey, featured in the video above. People can apply to adopt Harvey or any Critteraid cat online.

“Dogs are a big call right now,” Byer said “People are just not able to find accommodation where they can live with their pets.”

Critteraid is funded by its thrift shop in Summerland, who are always taking donations and volunteers.
