Wildfire donations stolen

The Penticton McDonald's is hoping someone will recognize a man who stole a bin containing donations for B.C. wildfire victims.

People manager Caitlyn Knowles said a customer came in around 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday and was unable to pay for his order. He left and returned a short time later, stealing the donation bin off the counter and taking off on a red and silver bike.

“A couple members of our management team gave pursuit, unfortunately we lost him because he was on a bike,” Knowles said, adding a couple bystanders also tried to chase the thief.

She estimates a couple hundred dollars was lost, which hurts particularly bad for her.

“I’m from Williams Lake, I lived there for almost 10 years, so it’s a hard pill to swallow when that money could have gone towards the wildfire victims.”

The theft has been reported to the RCMP. Anyone with information about the suspects identity is asked to contact police.
