Primed for a throwdown

The annual Pentown Throwdown fundraiser Saturday will donate all proceeds to the Youth Engagement Strategy Project.

The Pentown Throwdown BMX and skateboard competition barbecue fundraiser will take place at the Penticton Skatepark beside Loco Landing Adventure Park, between noon and 4 p.m., on Aug. 12.

“Ryan from Boyd Auto Body and Glass reached out to me a few months ago inquiring if this fundraiser would be a good fit for YES," said Amberlee Erdmann, YES Project coordinator. "Not only were we very grateful to be the charity chosen to help raise money for our Youth Resource Centre, but the event promotes a healthy and positive activity for youth to participate in during Peachfest.”

The barbecue fundraiser is by donation and is sponsored by IGA Penticton, who is supplying all the food for the event.

There will also be free face painting, as well as other activities and entertainment while the competition is underway.

“I am very excited to announce that Travis Turner will also be at the event doing performances throughout the event," said Ryan Wuthe operations manager at Boyd Auto Body and Glass and Peachfest director. "‘Little T’ is a rapper but is also known for his appearances in ‘Marley and Me: The Puppy Years’ and YTV's ‘Some Assembly Required’ among others things. He also just released a new album.”

The YES Project is committed to creating positive change for Penticton Youth by working side-by-side with young people who want to make a difference and supports youth aged 12 to 24.

Registration for the competition portion of the event will be between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
