Hwy 97 opens after crash

UPDATE 12:30 p.m.

The Oliver RCMP is confirming serious injuries in a crash that left Highway 97 closed along Vaseux Lake this morning.

“A car travelling north was attempting to pass a vehicle at a sharp corner when it entered into the oncoming lane and struck a truck heading south,” Sgt. Blaine Gervais said, noting the crash occurred around 8:30 a.m.

Motorists at the scene were told six people were taken to hospital.

The highway reopened to single lane alternating traffic around 11 a.m.

Highway 97 is closed at Vaseux Lake, about 12 km south of the junction with Highway 3A due to a major car accident.

At least three people have been injured.

Oliver Daily News is reporting that jaws of life were called to the crash scene for an extrication.

DriveBC is not able to offer an estimate of when the roadway will reopen.

This is the second major crash and highway closure along Vaseux Lake this week.
