Princeton fire activity slows

Fire crews battling the wildfire northeast of Princeton continue to make good progress.

While the fire remains 60 per cent contained, fire information officer Brent Zbaraschuk says fire activity which caused smoke to fill the valley around Princeton and the Okanagan Tuesday, has lessened.

"It's been quiet along the line," says Zbaraschuk,  "but there's still lots of fuel in the middle of this fire because it was a dirty burn."

"As we get closer to 100 per cent containment, the guys are now working 100 feet into the fire.

"It's just less area to ignite."

Zbaraschuk says 178 firefighters continue to work on the fire along with air support and heavy machinery.

Some evacuation orders were lifted for those residents living along the Princeton-Summerland road.

All other evacuation order and alerts remain in effect.

Highway 5A from Princeton to Aspen Grove remains closed to traffic,.
