Hwy 97 opens after crash

UPDATE 10:00 a.m.

A three-vehicle crash forced the closure of Highway 97 at the turnoff to the Vaseaux Lake Campground shortly after 8 a.m., according to the Oliver RCMP.

“A vehicle was stopped on the highway making a left turn into the campground when it was struck from behind by another northbound vehicle forcing the turning vehicle to cross the centre line and hit a southbound vehicle,” said Sgt. Blaine Gervais in a news release.

There was extensive damage to all vehicles involved, but luckily, no serious injuries.

Traffic was stopped to clear the accident scene, it is expected the highway will reopen shortly.

ORIGINAL 9:30 a.m.

Highway 97 is closed in both directions at Vaseux Lake, 12 km south of the Highway 3A junction due to a motor vehicle incident.

Details are scarce, with DriveBC reporting no estimated time of reopening.
